Transaero ceases operations

Image
Russia's second largest airline, Transaero, has finally ceased operations after its licence was revoked by the Russian government. The airline has been facing financial troubles with debts around 1.1bn euros. It filed for bankruptcy on October 1 2015 and stopped ticket sales on that date. Several flights were cancelled. Economy Minister, Alexei Ulyukayev had warned earlier in the month that the airline faces bankruptcy after the airline failed to reach an agreement with its creditors on a restructure of its debt estimated to be worth 250bn roubles ($5.2bn). Aeroflot attempted to buy the airline for a significant 1 rouble before it backed out because of the debt issue. This is what happens when an airline goes bust: Transaero airplanes heading to Spain for storage After 25 years in the air with a fleet of 106 airplanes comprising of mainly long haul Boeings. The airplanes will be grounded after the regulatory agency, Rosaviatsia announced that its poor financial profile is a

Plight of Nigerian Pilots

Image
It is quite annoying for individuals to spend millions of Naira or thousands of dollars to train to become pilots only to go back home and be struggling to looking for work. I think it is high time every pilot most especially the unemployed ones fight for what they deserve. They cannot continue to be fighting to be slaves when they can be living like kings in their own country. A Nigerian pilot invests about 12m to train and ends up competing with foreigners for jobs that should ordinarily be his. How did they get to this state? first of all the airlines argue that they are looking for experience and the Nigerians do not have it. That's on one angle. Another angle boils down to the hard reality that is tormenting the Nigerian airline industry. The Nigerian airline industry is relatively small and struggling. The average fleet size of Nigerian airlines ranges between 2 to 5 aircraft. Only Arik, Aero and Air Peace have a fleet of 26, 16 and 10 aircraft. The small fleet size of th

Man born on Turkish Airlines Plane becomes flight Attendant

Image
It is fun when life comes full circle. This was the case with Erkan Geldi. Let's travel back to 1990, ok here we go, In 1990, Geldi's mother went into labor onboard a Turkish Airlines flight from Izirmir, Turkey to Frankfurt, Germany. Funny enough, it happened to be his mother's first flight...what a surprise? Well she named him after the pilot of that plane. Now fast forward to 2015, this dude is now a flight attendant on Turkish airlines, the same airline his mother flew when he was born. Like working in your birthplace. In an interview he was asked why he chose the profession his reply was that "the profession chose me" Erkan Geldi Yahoo Travel

Mum let child defecate on Plane floor

Image
A mother has been slammed for allowing her son to defecate on the floor of an airplane just before it took off. The mother and the grand mother of the child were criticised by the Chief steward of Sherzhen airlines for allowing the child to poo in front of his seat. The parents of the child argued that the plane's toilet was too small as it will not fit all the three people - The mother, the grand mother and the child. They left the plane leaving a pile of crap and further angering the cabin crew It is however not clear whether the parents of the child have been blacklisted by the airline.

ALPA: Government should start consultations with UAE

The US should engage Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in consultations over Open Skies agreements, Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) president Tim Canoll said. He said the consultations would address alleged subsidies to Qatar Airways, Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways. “I believe the system will work as it’s designed and there will be consultations,” he told  ATW  in an editorial roundtable. “We are trying to persuade [the US government] of the facts.” The comment period on an information docket the US departments of State, Commerce and Transportation opened on the matter has closed, although comments are welcome on existing filings until Aug. 24. The government had sought to gauge public response on whether the three Persian Gulf carriers had benefited from illegal subsidies, as Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines and several labor groups, including ALPA, claim. The three US carriers and labor groups have  urged the government  to engage in consultat
